My original plan has been to drive the states and find somewhere with clean air where I can settle. Life, however, has been telling me that my savings isn’t big enough to accomplish this feat, lol.
Finding a place to stay is difficult, hotels are right out, campgrounds can be smoky or have other campers that use toxic petro-chemicals or even be down the road from an asphalt company. Yuk! Sleeping in rest areas isn’t as dangerous as you’d think. Seriously, one family got murdered at a rest area after a prison break years and years ago. The real dangers of rest areas are the toxic chemicals used to clean, the fragrances used by other motorists and the diesel exhaust.
My minivan had been giving me trouble and I keep having to take it in for service to dealerships that I’m not familiar with. One of them just did over $800 of work that didn’t fix the issue and even after explaining my situation didn’t bother letting me know there was a coupon I could use to save $160. That’s just raw. I’m not confident that the minivan will make it on a road trip. 🙁
So today I’m at another dealership, getting more work done to the van for another $600 or so and thinking maybe the air is fresh enough here. Well, not here… this particular town is pretty smelly. And I’m thinking that when I can travel, I’ll WWOOF. At least that way I’ll have a place to crawl back to if there’s more van trouble.
Maybe one day I’ll get to see the West Coast but for now I’ll have to be content with fresh air and the Appalachian Mountains… things could be worse. 🙂
